In the upcoming Bundesliga game, Borussia Dortmund will aim to get back on track following their recent defeat as they welcome newly-promoted St Pauli to Signal Iduna Park. Nuri Sahin’s BVB currently sit in seventh place in the table with 10 points, coming off a 2-1 loss to Union Berlin in their last league match. On the other hand, St Pauli is in 15th place with just four points after six matchweeks.
Despite winning their next two games after losing to Stuttgart, including a dominant 7-1 victory over Celtic in the Champions League, Dortmund fell short against Union Berlin in their most recent outing. Sahin criticized his team’s first-half performance, attributing the loss to gifting their opponents dominance and poor defensive play.
This defeat marks Dortmund’s second loss in their last five Bundesliga matches, with two draws and only two wins in that span. They have conceded 11 goals while scoring 10 during this period. However, the team still boasts an impressive home record, winning eight of their last nine matches at Signal Iduna Park, scoring 32 goals and conceding just nine times.
On the other side, boss Alexander Blessin may have felt that his St Pauli team was finding their rhythm in the top flight after a draw against RB Leipzig and a 3-0 win over Freiburg, but their recent defeat was their fourth loss of the season. Blessin will be troubled by St Pauli’s lack of goals, as they have only scored four times this season, the fewest in the Bundesliga.
St Pauli started their league campaign with three straight losses, scoring just once in a 3-1 defeat against Augsburg. They have conceded six of their nine goals in the second half of matches. Additionally, the away team has lost two of their three away fixtures in the Bundesliga this season, and they suffered 11 defeats in 17 away games the last time they were in the top flight in 2010-11.
