Real Madrid’s star striker, Kylian Mbappe, has found himself at the center of a serious legal issue, as reports from Sweden suggest he is a ‘reasonable suspect’ in a rape investigation.
According to recent reports, police in Sweden responded to an accusation of rape at The Bank Hotel, where Mbappe was staying during a visit to Stockholm last week.
In response to these allegations, the 25-year-old took to social media to deny the claims, labeling them as “fake news” and suggesting that they were part of a larger scheme to undermine him ahead of a legal battle with Paris Saint-Germain over bonus payments amounting to £46m.
Despite Mbappe’s denials, local publication Expressen maintains that he is under investigation for an incident that reportedly occurred on Thursday. The outlet claims that Mbappe is being ‘reasonably suspected’ of rape and sexual molestation, with the police becoming involved two days after the alleged incident.
Regarding this development, prosecutor Marina Chirakova stated, “I will not confirm that it is a case of rape. The only thing I can say is that a crime was reported on October 10 in central Stockholm.”
In response to the allegations, Mbappe’s entourage released a statement condemning the situation and defending Mbappe against what they referred to as a “new defamatory rumour”. They insisted that the accusations were false and promised to take legal action against anyone involved in spreading such harmful information.
Looking ahead, Real Madrid will be hoping that Mbappe can focus on football amid these legal troubles, with important matches against Celta Vigo, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona on the horizon. However, Mbappe’s recent thigh injury prevented him from representing France in the UEFA Nations League, raising questions about his availability for upcoming games.
The outcome of the legal proceedings against Mbappe will likely dictate his immediate future both on and off the pitch. It remains to be seen how these allegations will impact his career and reputation in the days to come.
