According to reports, Chelsea have received an update on the potential return of Reece James to action.
After returning to fitness towards the end of last season, there were hopes that the club captain would be fully fit for the 2024-25 campaign. The England international had a strong pre-season under new head coach Enzo Maresca, but unfortunately suffered another hamstring injury in August, keeping him out for several weeks.
Due to a red card received against Brighton & Hove Albion in May, James was suspended from domestic action. Maresca mentioned in press conferences that James had been ‘delayed’ in his recovery, but the player himself assured supporters on social media that he would be back soon.
With the October international break providing some additional time for James to progress in his recovery, there is a sense of optimism that he may be able to participate in full team training next week.
As per Matt Law of The Telegraph, speaking on the London Is Blue Podcast, there is a possibility that James could make a comeback in the upcoming fixtures.
There are seven matches scheduled between October 20 and November 10, across various competitions. While the game against Panathinaikos on October 24 in the Conference League could be a potential opportunity for James to make a substitute appearance, it might be too soon. There are also upcoming matches against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup on October 30 and Noah in Europe on November 7, where James could potentially feature without being rushed back into Premier League action.
