In a shocking turn of events for Manchester United, manager Erik ten Hag faced a triple injury blow both before and during the Red Devils’ humiliating 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Ange Postecoglou’s men outclassed the 20-time English champions at the Theatre of Dreams, with Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke all finding the back of Andre Onana’s net.
The match took a drastic turn when Bruno Fernandes was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on James Maddison, marking the first red card of his Man United career. This left the Red Devils with 10 men for the majority of the game.
Adding to the woes, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo, and Mason Mount suffered fresh injury blows. Maguire, who was expected to start in defense, was sidelined with an injury picked up in training. Ten Hag opted for Victor Lindelof instead.
Mainoo, who replaced Maguire in the lineup, had to be substituted off after Fernandes’s red card tackle. He was replaced by Mount, who later had to leave the field due to a head injury with blood running down the back of his head.
Man United were also missing Leny Yoro (foot), Tyrell Malacia (knee), and Luke Shaw (calf) for the match against Tottenham. Fernandes, who will face a three-game ban after the red card, criticized the referee’s decision post-match.
Despite the setback, Fernandes will be available for the Europa League clash against Porto. The extent of the injuries to Maguire, Mainoo, and Mount remains unknown, causing concern for Ten Hag and the Man United medical team.
