In the latest draw for the EFL Cup, Liverpool and Manchester City have been handed away ties against Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur respectively in the fourth round.
Liverpool began their defense of the EFL Cup with an impressive performance against West Ham United, securing a 5-1 victory with braces from Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo, as well as a goal from Mohamed Salah.
Manager Arne Slot’s team will now travel to face fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, just days before they are set to host them in a league fixture at Anfield.
Meanwhile, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is aiming to lift the trophy for the fifth time, having previously won it in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Guardiola’s side narrowly defeated Watford and will now face Tottenham in the next round.
Man City’s last meeting with Tottenham in the EFL Cup was in the 2020-21 final, where Aymeric Laporte scored the winning goal against a Spurs team managed by Ryan Mason after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
In other matchups, Arsenal will travel to Deepdale to face Championship side Preston North End, Chelsea will face either AFC Wimbledon or Newcastle United on the road, and Brentford will host Sheffield Wednesday at the Gtech Community Stadium.
