In a stunning display of goal-scoring prowess, Erling Haaland has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for August in the 2024-25 season, showcasing his incredible talent and form for reigning champions Manchester City.
The Norwegian international, who has previously won the Golden Boot award in back-to-back seasons, set a new record by scoring seven goals in just three games in August, marking the most goals ever scored by a player in a team’s first three Premier League matches of a season.
Haaland’s incredible run began with a goal in a 2-0 victory over Chelsea on the opening weekend of the campaign, followed by consecutive hat-tricks in 4-1 and 3-1 wins against Ipswich Town and West Ham United respectively. His hat-tricks made him the first player since Paul Jewell in 1994-95 to achieve this feat in a team’s first three league games of a season.
Upon receiving his third Player of the Month award, Haaland expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am delighted to have won this award so early in the season and would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I am also very grateful to my teammates, the coaches and staff for helping to make it happen. August was a brilliant month for the team, and I am proud to have played an important part in that.”
He added, “To have scored seven goals last month in three matches is great, but I will continue to work hard and improve my game. We have given ourselves a great foundation to build on now going into a busy period with the Champions League and Carabao Cup starting. I hope I can continue to help the team get the wins and keep us pushing in all the competitions.”
Despite being a doubt for the upcoming clash with Brentford, Haaland beat out tough competition from Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and David Raya, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Danny Welbeck to claim the prestigious award for August.
In a similar vein of success, Brighton’s head coach Fabian Hurzeler was named the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for August following an impressive start with the Seagulls, who were sitting second in the league table at the end of the month.
Hurzeler’s side secured victories against Everton and Manchester United, as well as a draw with Arsenal, accumulating seven points in total to claim the managerial accolade. Reflecting on his achievement, Hurzeler stated, “It’s always a nice trophy [to win] as it confirms your work. Not only my work but the work from the whole club, my staff members, the players.”
