Much discussion was held regarding the players who would be omitted from Des Buckingham’s squad until January. Simon Eastwood, the third-choice goalkeeper, Jordan Thorniley, a fringe defender, and Will Goodwin, who has been plagued by injuries, were all in contention. However, it was an injury that ultimately led the head coach to make a tough decision, resulting in Joe Bennett being left out.
Buckingham also has the option of recalling either Eddie Brearey or summer signing Jacob Knightbridge from their loan spells at Beaconsfield Town and Braintree Town, respectively, both of whom are under 21.
“I must stress that Simon is a crucial figure for this club and our team. He has played a significant role in the club’s journey back to the Championship and will continue to be a valuable asset for us on a daily basis at the training ground,” Buckingham said in a statement.
“Simon sets the bar high for our standards and is ready to step in should any injuries occur to our registered goalkeepers,” he added.
