In the latest transfer news, Liverpool is said to be among the three Premier League teams closely monitoring the progress of Belgian starlet Matias Fernandez-Pardo. The 19-year-old, who mainly operates on the left wing but can also play just off the striker, is currently representing Gent in Belgium, where he has already scored 10 goals in 28 appearances for the giants.
Fernandez-Pardo has started the 2024-25 campaign with two goals in seven matches and has also earned 10 caps for Belgium’s Under-19 team, scoring three goals and providing an assist in the process. Journalist Chris Wheatley, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, has revealed that Liverpool, alongside Leicester City and Southampton, have expressed interest in the teenager and are hoping to lure him away from his current club before the transfer deadline on August 30.
On a different note, Rangers’ pursuit of Manchester United’s Hannibal Mejbri could be in jeopardy due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League. The young attacker is reportedly not in Erik ten Hag’s plans at Old Trafford, having been left out of the squad for the opening Premier League matches against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion. Mejbri, who has had loan spells at Birmingham City and Sevilla, may be looking for a permanent move, with Rangers previously considered favorites to secure his signature. However, Football Insider suggests that Philippe Clement’s side might struggle to attract Mejbri to Ibrox following their exit from the Champions League qualifiers at the hands of Dynamo Kiev.
Meanwhile, Leicester City is said to be open to offers for 21-year-old striker Tom Cannon, who has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium. Originally behind Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka, Cannon now finds himself in a further difficult position after Daka’s injury, which is expected to keep him out until the end of 2025. This development could pave the way for Cannon to seek a move away from Leicester in search of regular playing time.
