In the world of football, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shared his thoughts on Chelsea’s new head coach Enzo Maresca, urging the Blues to be patient and give him the time needed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca took over as Chelsea’s fourth permanent managerial appointment under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s ownership in June, following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure at the end of last season. Since then, he has been busy overseeing the arrival of 10 new signings, with more expected to come. Despite winning just one of his six pre-season games in charge, the 44-year-old is determined to make his mark.
Having previously managed Parma and most recently led Leicester City to Championship glory, Maresca is relatively new to the first-team managerial scene. Before his success at Leicester, he worked as a youth team coach at Man City and served as a first-team assistant under Guardiola, who has praised his former colleague’s work.
During a recent press conference, Guardiola expressed his admiration for Maresca and emphasized the importance of sticking by him in challenging times. “The job Enzo did at Leicester belongs to him and his staff. My influence is zero on Leicester getting promoted again,” Guardiola stated. “I didn’t score a goal or make any saves. It’s on both sides and the success of the people together belongs absolutely to them.”
As Guardiola prepares his Manchester City side to face Chelsea, he is demanding nothing but the best from his players. After clinching a fourth consecutive Premier League title last season, Guardiola emphasized the importance of starting the new campaign on a high note to maintain their dominance in English football. “We prioritise the rest absolutely. I demand the best from Sunday against Chelsea,” Guardiola asserted, highlighting the high standards he holds for his team.
