Real Madrid are reportedly ready to submit a €50m (£43.06m) bid for a key player from Tottenham Hotspur.
Earlier in the transfer window, Real Madrid successfully secured the services of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain and Endrick from Palmeiras. Despite the departures of Nacho, Toni Kroos, and Joselu, manager Carlo Ancelotti assured fans that there would be no more arrivals before the end of August.
Ancelotti explained that the return of Jesus Vallejo from loan at Granada was the reason they were not looking to directly replace Nacho in defense. However, recent reports suggest that the club is now looking to strengthen their defensive options.
According to Doble Amarilla, Real Madrid have identified Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur as their desired addition to the squad. Romero has been a key player for Spurs in the past three seasons, making a total of 96 starts and two substitute appearances in all competitions. Despite Tottenham’s defensive struggles, Romero has been a consistent performer alongside Micky van de Ven and played a crucial role in Argentina’s recent Copa America triumph.
With three years left on his contract and having been signed for £42m in 2021, Spurs are likely to demand a higher fee than Real Madrid’s reported offer. Romero has expressed his desire to stay at Tottenham for at least one more season, but the allure of playing for the European champions may sway his decision.
It remains to be seen how strong Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is willing to push for Romero’s transfer. With aging defenders like Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, the La Liga giants will soon need younger alternatives in defense. Tottenham would also need to find a suitable replacement for Romero, which could be a challenging task in the current transfer window.
