Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Atalanta BC midfielder Ederson, as they look for alternatives to Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.
PSG is not willing to lower their asking price of €60m for Ugarte, which has led Manchester United to explore other options, with Burnley’s Sander Berge also on their radar.
According to GiveMeSport, Ederson is a potential signing for the English club as they aim to bring in a new central midfielder before the summer transfer window closes. The 25-year-old Brazilian is on the shortlist along with Berge and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joao Gomes.
Ederson has attracted interest from various clubs, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus. Valued at £34.4m by transfermarkt, he joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and has made 90 appearances for the Italian side, scoring eight goals and providing two assists.
During the 2023-24 season, Ederson impressed with seven goals and one assist in 53 games. In Serie A, he managed six goals and one assist in 36 appearances as Atalanta finished eighth and won the Europa League. Despite having three years left on his contract, he may be allowed to leave for the right price this summer.
Would Ederson be a good addition to Manchester United? The Brazilian’s standout performances for Atalanta, especially in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, have caught the attention.
Much will hinge on the price tag attached to Ederson, as Manchester United has been cautious about overspending this summer. The relationship between the two clubs could play a role, considering United recently signed Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.
In addition to Ederson, Manchester United is also linked with Sofyan Amrabat, who was on loan at the club from Fiorentina last season. With Scott McTominay potentially leaving, reinforcements in midfield are crucial for the Red Devils.
