In a significant blow to Manchester United, it has been revealed that Leny Yoro has undergone surgery on his injured foot. The 18-year-old Frenchman was signed by the Red Devils from Lille on July 18 and made his debut just two days later against Rangers.
Yoro was then included in the Man United squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, but he suffered a foot injury in his second appearance against Arsenal. It was later discovered that he had fractured his metatarsal, ruling him out for the next three months.
“Yoro’s rehabilitation starts now and we look forward to the 18-year-old returning to fitness in around three months,” a club spokesperson said.
Yoro had made a strong impression in his debut against Rangers and was expected to be a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans for the upcoming season. However, his absence will force United to consider bringing in another player in his position.
Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but no agreement has been reached between the two clubs.
Yoro is set to miss at least nine Premier League matches, as well as the start of United’s Europa League and EFL Cup campaigns. His return to action could come against Chelsea on November 2, or possibly the following weekend against Leicester City.
In addition to Yoro, striker Rasmus Hojlund will also be out of action until mid-September due to a hamstring injury. Both players will miss Saturday’s Community Shield clash against Manchester City.
