In a recent development, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly received a £12.9m bid for Emerson Royal from AC Milan.
The Brazilian right-back is one of several players within Spurs’ squad who could be on the move as new manager Ange Postecoglou implements sweeping changes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Despite making 22 Premier League appearances last season, Royal only started 11 of those matches as Postecoglou preferred to use summer signing Pedro Porro at right-back.
However, Royal has been given a chance to shine during the early stages of pre-season, playing at centre-back in the absence of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Royal’s time at Tottenham could be coming to an end as AC Milan have submitted a £12.9m bid for the 25-year-old.
The report suggests that Milan are keen to bring Royal to the San Siro ahead of the upcoming season, with potential add-ons included in the deal based on the player’s performance.
Negotiations between Spurs and Milan are ongoing, and both clubs are hopeful of reaching an agreement in the coming days.
With Royal potentially leaving, Spurs are already looking for a replacement at right-back to provide competition for Porro, who has been a regular starter for the team.
One option being considered is Archie Gray, a midfielder by trade who played at right-back for Leeds United last season. Porro has started all five of Tottenham’s pre-season friendlies, underscoring the lack of depth at the position.
