Netflix has officially announced that the highly anticipated second season of Squid Game will make its debut on Boxing Day, December 26.
The Korean-language series took the world by storm when it premiered on the streaming platform back in September 2021, amassing an impressive 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first 28 days.
The horror drama revolves around the character of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who finds himself immersed in a secretive game where 456 participants must navigate deadly challenges to compete for a life-changing reward, with only one player emerging victorious.
The revelation of the premiere date for season two suggests that the entire season may not be dropped all at once, as Netflix has been known to release new seasons of its most popular shows over consecutive weeks in recent times.
A synopsis for the upcoming season teases: "Three years after triumphing in Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to unmask the masterminds behind the game and put an end to their cruel sport. The true game is about to begin."
In a statement, the show creator expressed his excitement for the new season, stating: "I am thrilled to announce the date for Season 2 and reveal the news of Season 3, the final installment. We have worked hard to bring another thrilling chapter to the Squid Game saga."
As fans eagerly anticipate the return of Seong Gi-hun seeking revenge in the vicious game once again, the upcoming season promises intense showdowns and unexpected twists that will lead into the epic finale in Season 3.
The creator added: "We are dedicated to delivering an unforgettable viewing experience and we can’t wait for audiences to witness the culmination of this gripping story. Stay tuned for the thrilling journey ahead."
