In a recent development, RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose has issued a stern warning to Barcelona regarding their pursuit of Dani Olmo, after reports indicated that the Catalan giants had failed with a second bid for the talented midfielder.
Olmo, who previously spent time in Barcelona’s La Masia academy from 2007 to 2014, has since become a key player for Leipzig and has impressed on the international stage with his performances for Spain during their successful Euro 2024 campaign.
While it is believed that Olmo has already agreed to personal terms with Barcelona over a six-year contract until 2030, the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. Barcelona’s latest bid reportedly included performance-related add-ons that could have reached £55.2m, but Leipzig is holding out for a guaranteed fee of £46.9m.
Leipzig is also said to be unhappy with Barcelona’s proposed payment structure, as they prefer to receive the full fee within a few months rather than in installments over a longer period.
Speaking about the situation in a press conference, Rose emphasized the importance of recognizing Olmo’s value and meeting Leipzig’s demands in order to secure his services.
“The player has value. He earned it with us. He has developed brilliantly. Everyone knows what Dani Olmo can do. Accordingly, everyone must be clear about his value and under what conditions the club might be willing to talk,” Rose said.
“I think it is also important for Dani that he is shown his worth and knows it. And the club that absolutely wants him should then also do justice to the value of Dani Olmo.”
On the field, Olmo has been a standout performer for Leipzig, contributing 63 goals across all competitions in 148 appearances. Despite limited playing time due to injuries in the 2023-24 season, Olmo still managed to make a significant impact, scoring eight goals and providing five assists.
His impressive performances for Spain at Euro 2024, where he stepped up in the absence of Pedri and played a pivotal role in their success, further underline his quality and value as a player.
As negotiations continue between the two clubs, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will meet Leipzig’s demands and secure the signing of Dani Olmo.
