In a breaking announcement today, central defender Dan Ballard put an end to all transfer speculation by committing to a new long-term contract. The talented 24-year-old has been the subject of interest from both Premier League clubs and teams in France following his impressive performances for the Black Cats since his move from Arsenal in 2022.
The Northern Ireland international has now inked a deal that could see him remain on Wearside until 2028, after agreeing to a one-year extension.
“When they approached me about a new contract, there was no hesitation on my part. Signing the extension was the only thing I wanted to do, and I’m thrilled that it’s now official. I’m eager to get started on the upcoming season,” Ballard stated.
With Ballard’s future secured, Sunderland are expected to demand top dollar for the defender, who still has two years remaining on his existing deal.
According to reports from Graeme Baily of HITC and James Copley of the Sunderland Echo, there is speculation that Manchester City could potentially target Black Cats’ goalkeeper Anthony Patterson if Ederson were to depart.
